Eventide are from Sweden and they play
Death Metal. Normally you could end the review here, as you could
clearly imagine the similarity to bands like In Flames or Soilwork.
But mind games like this don´t work for Eventide, who
already released two demos and this debut album, thus offering way
more background than other bands in this genre.
What mostly
sets them apart from the typical sound are the Dimmu Borgir
flavoured keyboard tunes. Although the songs are great structured,
have awesome melodies and a nice catchy flavour, the keyboard
with its almost orchestral vibe sticks out throughout the entire
album, which gives the album a fresh and addictive character.
'Standards Of Rebellion' could almost be compared to 'Mourning
Palace' from Dimmu Borgirs "Enthrone Darkness
Triumphant". A melody played with a violin, short and heavy,
underlayed by fast drumming and admirable guitars, creates a
baroque charm which makes this song absolutely a highlight on the
album.
With "Diaries From The Gallows" Eventide created
the perfect symbiosis between Dimmu Borgir and In Flames by
linking the preferences of those two bands. The album is highly
addictive and contains with above mentioned track a
longlasting classic. Absolutely recommendable.
